Benjamin Croucher
Benjamin Croucher began studying percussion at age 11. Growing up in Houston,
Texas he attended Bleyl Junior High and Cypress Creek High School. While in
grade school, he won numerous TMEA awards including a judge’s choice for
outstanding soloist and making the All-state orchestra twice, in which he was
the first percussionist in his high school’s history. At age 15, he marched 2nd
Bass with Revolution Drum and Bugle Corps, and was a member of a nonprofit group
called Percussion One, a local performing ensemble in Houston that performed for
the Houston Aeros, Six Flags Astroworld, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and
even The Houston Texans. In 2004, he attended Interlochen Arts Camp and
performed in the World Youth Symphony Orchestra. In 2005, he returned to
Interlochen as the Texas Emerson Scholar. At age 16 he began focusing on drumset
and audio production which he continued studying at SMU. At 20 years old, His
recording of Kevin Hanlon’s “Writing on the wall” was featured on the Dallas
Observer website, and the recording for “Kickin’ It” sparked multiple
international opportunities in Bojano, Italy; allowing the ensemble to play the
Matese Friend Festival in 2007 and getting invited to open the World Music
Festival in 2008. Benjamin Croucher is currently completing his BA in Music at
Southern Methodist University. He has studied under John Bryant, Ed smith, Doug
Howard, and Jamal Mohammed. He has played alongside such names as Evelyn
Glennie, Jeff Queen, Mark Ford, and even Bob Becker. He teaches and performs
with local churches in the area, voices of change, and the DMA. He enjoys
teaching a variety of percussion ranging from drumset, marching, ethnic, and
classical. Mr. Croucher joined the Rockwall School of Music in the fall of 2009.
